High School Graduation
Each student graduates from high school ready for college and career.
The graduation rate for all district and charter high schools in Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) is 64%. Unfortunately, wide gaps exist between racial and ethnic groups:
9th grade is a critical year for high school students. In fact, 9th grade course passage is more predictive of graduation than race or income. (i) These findings reflect the experience of our local high schools. Generation Next approached high schools in both cities and inquired about the specific needs of their students. Principals highlighted that challenges emerge as early as 9th grade, with some students falling behind on credits so much that it jeopardizes their ability to graduate on time.
Generation Next is currently investigating this further by gathering data on when students begin to fall behind in Minneapolis and Saint Paul high schools. Simultaneously, staff is documenting the schools, districts, and out-of-school services available for students that fall behind on credits.
Minneapolis Public Schools On-Track
All high schools receive aggregate On-Track reports. Two pilot schools receive student level on-track reports and are piloting interventions at the first sign of risk
